Armed Suspect Still At Large

On April 24, 2021, a shooting occurred at approximately 5:30 am around College Avenue and Arlington Street in Winnipeg. Detectives in the Major Crimes Unit have been investigating the shooting involving two males in their twenties, sitting in an SUV for three months with no leads. The suspect is described as a male in his late teens or early twenties, with a medium build and dark hair. He was seen wearing a light-coloured hoodie.

The police responded to a Winnipeg hospital after the two males were brought in with gunshot wounds. One of the victims was critically injured and is still being hospitalized. The other was treated and released. The police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect. Any information about the suspect’s whereabouts before or after the shooting is valuable.

Investigators released video surveillance of the incident as well as a composite drawing of the suspect in the shooting. Warning this video contains graphic content, with distinct gunshots sounds.

In other news, the Winnipeg Police Service 2020 Statistic Report shows how the Covid-19 pandemic affected crime rates in Winnipeg. Calls to the Communications Centre dropped by almost 6%, Check Wellbeing incident calls increased by 12% surpassing Domestic Incidents as the most dispatched event, and Property crimes decreased significantly compared to last year. There was also a decrease in liquor store thefts, a decrease in violent crimes due to the decrease in all robberies, and homicides numbers were quite high for the second year in a row.
