Neville, former Liberal Member of Parliament, replaces Janice Filmon who has been serving in the role since 2015
Today Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, announced the appointment of the Honourable Anita Neville as the new Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba.
Neville, a long-time Liberal Member of Parliament, will replace outgoing Lieutenant Governor, the Honourable Janice C. Filmon, who has served in the role since 2015.
Neville served on numerous committees, parliamentary associations, and parliamentary groups during her tenure as a Member of Parliament from 2000 to 2011. Besides serving as Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Canadian Heritage and the Minister of Women’s Status, she also served as the Minister of Status of Women.

As Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba, I know she will continue to make a difference for Manitobans and Canadians. I wish her all the best in her new role.” Said Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada
Neville’s appointment will make her only the third woman to hold Manitoba’s Lieutenant Governor position and the first of Jewish heritage.
Lieutenant Governors represent Her Majesty The Queen of Canada in their respective provinces. As part of their responsibilities, they grant Royal Assent to provincial laws and swear in members of the Executive Council.
