Anand Announces $1.4 Billion Upgrade To Dwyer Hill Counter-terrorism Training Centre

Today, the Government of Canada announced a significant investment of $1.4 billion to upgrade the Dwyer Hill Training Centre infrastructure for the military’s counter-terrorism response unit. Anita Anand, the Minister of National Defence, made the announcement, and the upgrades are set to create 2,000 jobs over the next 10 years. This project will provide more than 100,000 m2 of purpose-built space to meet the Joint Task Force 2’s (JTF 2) long-term growth, training, and high-readiness operational needs. The work includes replacing 89 aging and temporary structures with 23 new facilities, renovating seven buildings, and upgrading the site’s utilities.

This investment is a significant step towards ensuring that Canada’s Special Forces have the necessary tools and resources to keep Canadians safe. JTF 2 is a highly skilled and trained force that is responsible for carrying out sensitive and high-risk military operations in Canada and abroad. With the increasing threat of terrorism and other security risks, it is crucial that JTF 2 has access to the best possible training and equipment to carry out its missions effectively.

The Dwyer Hill Training Centre is critical to JTF 2’s operations. It provides the unit with the necessary facilities and resources to carry out its training and operational requirements. The current infrastructure at the site is aging, and many of the buildings and facilities are in need of significant upgrades. The investment announced by Minister Anand will provide JTF 2 with state-of-the-art facilities and equipment to ensure that they can continue to carry out their missions effectively and efficiently.

The Dwyer Hill Training Centre investment will also significantly impact the local economy, providing a much-needed boost to the National Capital Region. The project will also create economic opportunities for local businesses and workers, as they will be involved in constructing and operating the new facilities.

The new facilities being built at the Dwyer Hill Training Centre will also be environmentally friendly. The project will incorporate the latest green technologies and design principles to minimize environmental impact. The new facilities will be energy-efficient, use renewable energy sources and meet the federal target of net-zero emissions by 2050.

The government’s investment in the Dwyer Hill Training Centre is an important commitment to ensuring that Canada’s military has the necessary resources to carry out their duties effectively. The investment will provide JTF 2 with the modern, state-of-the-art facilities and equipment necessary to maintain their readiness and effectiveness in carrying out their missions.

The announcement by Minister Anand is also an acknowledgment of the sacrifices that Canada’s Special Forces, military and law enforcement make to keep Canadians safe. These highly skilled and trained individuals put their lives on the line to defend Canada’s interests at home and abroad. It is essential that they have access to the best possible training and equipment to carry out their missions effectively.
