Alberta’s COVID-19 cases are not surpassed the national average
Alberta is in crisis and without a clear plan in place for combatting COVID-19, the province has now become Canada’s hot spot for infections. While provinces across the country have put in place strict COVID-19 protocols and have gone into lockdown to curb the spread of the virus, Alberta’s Provincial government has been reluctant to do so.
“We can not wait for the provincial government to act” Said Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi as parts of the province start to see its rate of infection surpass that of India per capita. India is now leading the world in COVID-19 cases at a staggering 100,000 per day.
Alberta’s Premier Kenney’s reluctance to put restrictions on an economy that has already stalled may be the impediment that will hinder its restart. Everyone can agree there is no blueprint to governing in a global pandemic, but with that same sentiment, we can also conclude a failure to impose strict COVI-19 measures to curb the spread is irresponsible.
Alberta’s natural gas industry has been on the decline for years and it is the responsibility of the government in power to be transparent with their citizens on the nature of the industry. Instead, the Albertan government has to often put the blame on the federal government for the industries collapse. The federal government has always played a huge role in Alberta’s economy and it is often overlooked by the recent string of uncontrollable national disasters such as fires and flooding.
Everyone in the country has Alberta’s best interest at heart and we can only hope, the government stops playing politics and the blame game and start to trust the science.
