Afghanistan President Ghani Re-Elected For A Second Term

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a telephone conversation this today, congratulated President Ghani on winning in the preliminary results of the Presidential Elections.
Prime Minister Modi congratulated the People and President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan on successfully holding the Presidential Elections and added that India, as a friend and neighboring country of Afghanistan’s and as the largest democracy in the world, would fully support democracy in Afghanistan.
President Ghani, representing the Government and People of Afghanistan, said to the Prime Minister Modi that they appreciated India’s continued support not only as a friend and neighbor but also as a strategic friend of Afghanistan’s.
Prime Minister Modi, while expressing his country’s support to the Afghan – led and Afghan – owned Peace Process, stated that India, in addition to the Peace Process, stood beside Afghanistan in the fight against terrorism; and his country’s support to a democratic flourished, and stable Afghanistan would continue.
