Afghan president provides extra pay incentives for COVID-19 frontline workers
Afghan President Ashraf Ghani presided over an inter-governmental meeting this morning at the Presidential Palace to discuss efforts and recommendations of the Public Health Ministry in order to cope with the second wave of coronavirus and its aftermaths.
Such meetings will be held twice a week, Sundays and Wednesdays, to ensure proper decision-making and implementation of the roadmap on response to the second wave of the pandemic by taking into account the recommendations of the Public Health Ministry.
The Minister of Public Health Mohammad Jawad Osmani shared his recommendations and precautionary measures to curb the spread of coronavirus such as enhancing the capacities at healthcare systems, imposing certain restrictions, and raising public awareness, improvement of surveillance systems, online testing to enable the government, office work hours and mandatory wearing of mask in populated areas.
President Ashraf Ghani said the healthcare institutions should mobilize their capacities and resources to be able to deal with any looming wave and prevent social and health crises, while attaching importance on building coordination with international agencies.
President Ghani approved the MoPH recommendations on providing incentive pays to healthcare staff of Mohammad Ali Jinah and Afghan Japan hospitals who are on the frontline of the fight against the virus.
The president instructed the Office of Operation and Support of the President for National Development to utilize its resources in supplying oxygen for healthcare centers and hospitals, and instructed the Ministry of Haj and Religious Affairs to raise public awareness regarding the second wave of the pandemic through mosques.
