Acquitted Air India Bomber, Ripudaman Singh Malik Shot And Killed In Surrey

RCMP are still investigating what led to his killing

Ripudaman Singh Malik, who was acquitted in the 1985 Air India terrorist bombing, has been shot dead. R.C.M.P. confirmed that Malik’s family was on the scene this morning, shortly after a shooting left a man dead in the Newton area around 9:30 a.m.

Malik and Ajaib Singh Bagri were acquitted in 2005 in the 1985 terrorist attack against India’s national airline that left 331 dead. Two bomb-laden suitcases were checked in and tagged for Air India flights going in opposite directions. One exploded in Tokyo’s Narita Airport, killing two baggage handlers, while the other exploded aboard Air India Flight 182, killing 329 passengers.

R.C.M.P. officers were called to the Newton neighbourhood of Surrey, B.C., where a man was suffering from gunshot wounds. Officers administered first aid until paramedics arrived, but the man succumbed to his injuries. Officers believe this was a targeted shooting, noting a suspect vehicle on fire several blocks away.

No arrests have been made as police believe there was a second vehicle used as a getaway car. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has now taken over the case.
