In yet another slap to the face of the South Asian and Hindu communities in Canada, the Liberal Party has disqualified Chandra Arya from running in the upcoming federal election—without providing any meaningful explanation. This follows his earlier exclusion from the party’s leadership race, which was similarly veiled in secrecy and silence.
The email sent to Arya reportedly contained no concrete justification, no procedural transparency, and no path for appeal. This isn’t just a political snub—it’s a systemic insult. Disqualifying a sitting MP with deep roots in the Hindu community and a strong following in Nepean sends a loud and toxic message: some voices, despite years of service, are not welcome.
“I have been informed by the Liberal Party that my nomination as the candidate for the upcoming federal election in Nepean has been revoked. While this news is deeply disappointing, it does not diminish the profound honour and privilege it has been to serve the people of Nepean — and all Canadians — as their Member of Parliament since 2015.” said Arya

Arya’s exclusion is especially galling given his efforts to stand up for Hindu Canadians on issues ranging from hate crimes to international human rights. His loyalty to the party has now been rewarded with a lockout that feels like a calculated betrayal. For many South Asians, this is not just one man being cut loose—it’s an unmistakable signal that their votes are taken for granted, their presence is tokenized, and their power is dismissed.
This is the same party that drapes itself in diversity during elections but discards its own when they dare to stand tall. The Liberal Party may try to spin this as routine candidate vetting, but the pattern is hard to ignore. Arya’s supporters are demanding answers, and rightly so.
If the Liberals believe this won’t backfire, they’re sorely mistaken. The erosion of trust is real. And come election time, they may discover that pandering without respect breeds backlash, not loyalty.
