Trudeau to Renew Partnership with Africa

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has unveiled a comprehensive plan to renew Canada’s ties with Africa, focusing on key initiatives that promote economic cooperation, peace, and security.
*Economic Cooperation Initiatives*
Trudeau’s plan includes establishing a new Africa Trade Hub to coordinate economic diplomacy and engagement efforts across the Canadian government. Additionally, a large-scale trade mission led by Minister Mary Ng will prioritize innovation sectors, infrastructure, and critical minerals.
*Peace and Security Initiatives*
Canada will provide $54.4 million to support peace and security projects in Africa, focusing on areas like youth participation in peace processes, counter-terrorism, and border management. Some notable projects include promoting youth participation in the peace process in Cameroon, supporting the establishment of Joint Operations Centres at border points in Kenya and Somalia, and enhancing security through improved border and immigration management in Kenya.
*Development and Humanitarian Initiatives*
Minister Ahmed Hussen announced $176.64 million in funding for various development projects, including supporting women’s empowerment in Morocco, accelerating women’s business growth in Ethiopia, and promoting climate resilience in Ethiopian coffee-growing communities. These initiatives aim to reduce poverty, promote economic development, and empower women and youth.
