The US House Of Representatives Committee Voted To Condemn Bannon For Contempt of Congress

Bannon cannot evade testifying before the House Committee

On Tuesday night, a House committee investigating the Jan. 6 Terror attack on the US Capitol attack, formally authorized putting former US President Donald Trump’s top advisers Steve Bannon in contempt of Congress. This now sets the stage for a crucial House vote later in the week.

The committee unanimously approved a decision condemning Bannon for contempt of Congress for refusing to comply with a subpoena last Thursday.

The decision will be referred to the House of Representatives, which is led by President Joe Biden’s Democratic Party, who will likely vote to refer the case to courts. Bannon insists he has executive privilege under the former president, which allows the president to keep some information from Congress and the courts.

However, the decision states that even if Trump could evade such a privilege, it would not absolve Bannon of his duty to testify before the committee, considering that Bannon’s refusal had no legal basis and violated legal requirements.
