Powell served as the United States first Black Secretary of State
Colin Luther Powell was a retired four-star army general that served as America’s National Security Advisor, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs and the first black Secretary of State in the United States of America under the Bush administration.
“General Colin L. Powell, former U.S. Secretary of State and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff passed away this morning due to complications from Covid-19. He was fully vaccinated. We want to thank the medical staff at Walter Reed National Medical Center for their caring treatment. We have lost a remarkable and loving husband, father, grandfather and a great American,” the Powell family said.
With the news of Powell’s passing, condolences are pouring in from around the world from heads of state and colleagues honoring his life and legacy. Powell has served his country for over 35 years and his and will be missed.
