12 Americans died in the attacks on the U.S African Embassies
This year marks the 23rd anniversary of the bombing of two U.S. Embassies in Africa. The survivors of those devastating attacks will never forget the horror that took place on August 7th, 1998.
The attack happened in two locations simultaneously. They were targeted at the U.S. Embassies in Nairobi, Kenya and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The terrorist attacks on that day, killed 224 people including 12 Americans, and injuring more than 4,000 civilians.
According to The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the attacks were directly linked to Osama Bin Laden and his terrorist organization Al-Qaeda. These attacks were part of a larger campaign organized by Al-Qaeda to kill American citizens.
After years of the U.S. government hunting Al-Qaeda, they were successful in their mission to eliminate Bin Laden and a larger number of his terrorist cells. The raid on the Bin Laden’s compound in Pakistan was authorized by US President Barack Obama and carried out by the elite special forces Seal Team Six.

Tonight, I can report to the American people and to the world that the United States has conducted an operation that killed Osama Bin Laden, the leader of al Qaeda, and a terrorist who’s responsible for the murder of thousands of innocent men, women, and children.” Said President Barack Obama, addressing the nation on May 2nd, 2011.
And while the capture of these terrorists will not erase the tragic memories from people’s minds, it was certainly a big step towards disrupting one of the world’s most dangerous terrorist organizations.
