New Indigenous Exhibit Unveiled At Saint-Louis Forts & Chateaux National Historic Sites

The exhibit was developed in conjunction with Parks Canada and the Indigenous Tourism Industry

Yesterday, the Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, president of the Treasury Board and Member of Parliament for Quebec, unveiled the new exhibit at the Saint-Louis Forts and Chateaux National Historic Site, along with Remy Vincent, Grand Chief of Huron-Wendat Nation.

This partnership between the Park Canada and the Huron-Wendat Nation resulted in a development aimed to highlight diplomacy by enhancing the existing exhibit from Huron-Wendat Nation’s perspective on this piece of history. To do this, new evocative characters were added and the Wendat language was assimilated.

I am therefore extremely proud of this collaboration between Parks Canada and the Huron-Wendat Nation, which allows us to highlight, in current times, their vision of our common history.” Said Jean-Yves Duclos

The exhibit includes six new stations based on beliefs related to diplomacy, including pride, honour, and respect. The new visitor experience will encourage a better understanding of over 200 years of diplomatic history with the First Nations through the perspective of the Huron-Wendat Nation. They will also learn about Huron-Wendat governors and diplomats, as well as the alliances between these nations that will come about to shaped North America as we know it.

Park Canada and the Huron-Wendat Nation collaboration was formed under the Indigenous Tourism Initiatives program created in 2016. This program supports the development of Aboriginal tourism encounters at various national historic locations throughout Canada.
