The committee will be without any members of the Republican Party after they voted against a bipartisan committee
January 6, 2021, will be known as the day a sitting US President incited an attack on his own country. President Donald Trump and many of the Republican Party members have abdicated their duty to serve the people and do not deserve to hold any office.
Four years of divisive rhetoric acts of violence, racist rhetoric, tens of thousands of lies, intimidation, corruption and calls for acts of anarchy have all been standard practice for Trump and with the enablement of the Republican Party under Mitch McConnell.
On May 28, 2021 US Senate Republican voted to block the creation of a bipartisan committed to investigating the Jan. 6 insurrection on the US Capitol. The Bill was introduced by the House of Representative and passed with support from 35 Republicans but died on the Senate floor as they were not able to reach the required 60 votes needed to break the filibuster, in which only 6 Republicans had the courage to put the country over Trump.
One year into the devastation of the Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln sent a message to Congress, imploring Members to join as one to save the union.
“Fellow citizens, we cannot escape history,” Lincoln said. “We of this Congress and this administration will be remembered in spite of ourselves. No personal significance, or insignificance, can spare one or another of us.”
“It is imperative that we seek the truth of what happened. To do that, we had hoped that Congress would establish an independent, bipartisan 9/11-type Commission. We were successful with a strong bipartisan vote in the House, but Mitch McConnell asked GOP Senators to ‘do him a personal favor’ and vote against the Commission.
“That is why the House will be establishing a Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol. It will investigate and report upon the facts and causes of the attack. It will report on conclusions and recommendations for preventing any future assault. And it will find the truth.” Said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi
On January 6th, 2021, the world watched in astonishment as law enforcement officers opened the gates and escorted terrorists into the Capitol building and paused to take selfies. The world also watched brave individuals and members of the Capitol police put their lives in danger to protect the men and woman of the US Congress. Unfortunately for brave men and woman doing their job to serve and protect Congress, when it came time for a bipartisan committee to investigate the cause of the deadly insurrection, the majority of Republican Party turned their back on them.
