Mayor calls the deadly knife attack an act of terrorism
Just weeks ago, a French teacher was behead for making statements about the Profit Mohammad that put further stress on the country’s relationship with the Muslim community.
The suspect has been taken into custody and is said to be of Turkish heritage. “terrorist attack at the heart of the Notre-Dame basilica”. said Nice Mayor Christian Estrosi
In a statement from the Turkish Foreign Ministry, “we strongly condemn the attack on a church in the French city of Nice and offer our condolences to the relatives of those who lost their lives”.
The attack left two people with their throat slit and one that was stabbed multiple times. The suspect was shot by French police and taken into custody. French President Macron along with the country’s anti-terrorism task force is set to arrive at the scene of the attack.
In wake of another act of terror, world leaders have offered their thoughts and prayers to the people of France.
“I strongly condemn the terrorist attack that took place near the Notre-Dame Basilica in Nice. As a sign of mourning and solidarity with the victims and their families, I call on the Muslims of France to cancel all the Mawlid festivities,” the French Muslim Council tweeted.
France has now raised their threat level to high, giving the authority additional resources needed to combat plots of terrorism against the country.
