Another major drug bust at a Canadian correctional facility is becoming all to often. Although strict guidelines are in place as to what gets in an out of correctional facilities, there is clearly a breakdown within the system.

Throughout the years, there have been many speculation that prison officials have been on the take and have been known to look the blind eye on occasions in lieu of a kickback. There has been a few isolated incidents over the years were prison officials have acted out of the scope of their duties that resulted in criminal proceedings against them.

On August 8, 2020, a package containing contraband was seized at Kent Institution, a maximum security facility. The contraband seized included the following:

·        5 handmade stabbing weapons
·        1 mini cell phone
·        51.1 grams of crystal methamphetamine
·        1 gram of THC

The total estimated institutional value of this seizure is $27,500. Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is heightening measures to prevent contraband from entering its institutions in order to help ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone. CSC is working with local police to take action against those who attempt to introduce contraband into correctional institutions.

CSC has set up a telephone tip line for all federal institutions so that it may receive additional information about activities relating to security at CSC institutions. These activities may be related to drug use or trafficking that may threaten the safety and security of visitors, inmates and staff members working at CSC institutions.
